The Seal of Approval is an indication that the product bearing the Seal has been approved by Parents for Window Blind Safety as a product that has a reduced risk of cord strangulation, as compared to traditional window covering products. The Seal is a safety approval only evaluates and addresses cord strangulation hazards; it does not serve as an approval of any other safety issues beyond cord strangulation hazards. Parents for Window Blind Safety has created a “Seal of Approval” to inform consumers of products which have a reduced risk of strangulation. Before giving the Parents for Window Blind Safety “Seal of Approval,” Parents for Window Blind Safety submits any proposed products to its Board members for evaluation and review. In addition, the products are reviewed and evaluated by a Human Factors consultant, together with a consultant from the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Parents for Window Blind Safety and its Board members are uniquely qualified to determine the safety of window covering products, in that, each of the Board members have actually lost a child to window covering strangulation. Thereafter, the Board members joined together as a group to study and more carefully examine the issues associated with window covering safety. In addition, the outside consultants have special training in the fields of psychology and human factors and have experience in product safety, each having worked for extended periods of time evaluating products on behalf of the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission. The clients of Parents for Window Blind Safety are product manufacturers who choose to submit their product to the organization to obtain the “seal of approval” on the product. There is a suggested donation amount which helps cover the expense of having the product evaluated and tested by the safety consultants. |
